Individuals of an Italy-based family of thieves who stole more than £1.2 million valued of goods, among them from ex- NUFC striker Alexander Isak, have been mandated to pay back only £1 each.

Brothers Valentino and Giacomo Nikolov, their sister Jela and her son Charlie journeyed to the northeastern of the UK to burgle three houses in spring 2024.

The group of four were jailed for from a decade or less in May 2025.

At a proceeds of crime hearing at the court, Jela Jovanovic and the Nikolov brothers were instructed to pay back £1 each while Charlie Jovanovic must pay £1,135.

Particulars of the Break-ins

The court previously heard the group came by ferry in the UK on 27 March 2024 and employed a RV as their "headquarters", which they stationed at a service area and Durham service stations while utilizing a separate vehicle to scout out properties and carry out thefts.

On 31 March they stole over one million pounds of items such as designer clothing, purses, jewellery and a CBE medal from a house on a street in Jesmond, Newcastle, while the residents were away.

The following night, the crew entered a home on a private road in Whitburn, and stole luxury bags, jewellery and footwear worth more than £100,000.

After scouting out Newcastle United's facility for 48 hours, they then acted at the residence of Sweden player Mr Isak in Darras Hall on 4 April, taking ten thousand pounds in money, £68,000 worth of jewelry and the striker's one hundred twenty thousand pound Audi RS6.

The group, who were described by prosecutors as experienced itinerant thieves, wore gloves and masks, turned their phones off as they neared their targets and strapped a number plate, which had been taken from a garage in Chester-le-Street, on to their car with rubber straps.

They were apprehended in the Birmingham area on 13 April.

Legal Proceedings and Sentencing

Valentino had pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to burglary but was convicted by the court, while his three relations had all submitted guilty pleas to the same charge.

At the criminal gains session, lawyer Daniel Cordey said every one of the burglars had profited from their crimes to the amount of over £1.2 million, which was based on what the affected parties said they had had stolen.

But Charlie was the only one found to have any money that could be "recovered", specifically over a thousand pounds which had already been seized by authorities, the court heard, with two weeks to be served in prison if he defaulted.

The remaining members had no assets or property so were ordered to make a token amount of £1 each, with seven days in prison the consequence if the money was not submitted.

Judge Robert Spragg said if they were discovered with assets in the coming years, "such as operating Italy in a sports car or possessing a home", the prosecution could seek new proceedings to "satisfy the amount outstanding".
