The Details Known Concerning the Victims of the Bondi Terrorist Incident

A minimum of 16 individuals perished and in excess of 40 were wounded when gunmen opened fire at a Hanukkah event at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities have labeled a terrorist attack.

As of the newest reports, officials have announced the death toll is 16, which includes one of the suspected gunmen. Furthermore, 42 injured people were taken to hospital.

The deceased are still awaiting officially identified, but investigators think their ages span between 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger

Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.

Reportedly a father-of-five, he served as the assistant rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Family members and acquaintances spoke of him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.

“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to share joy and positivity, to make the world a better place, lose his life in this way?” a family member asked.

Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.

Alexander Kleytman

Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.

She told the events leading up to the attack, saying they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He shielded me because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.

The pair were both survivors of the Holocaust, having experienced immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Eastern Europe.

Dan Elkayam

The French foreign ministry have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is among the dead.

In a statement, a senior official expressed that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.

“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the statement continued.

One Child

A 10-year-old girl who was rushed to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, police have confirmed.

One Israeli Citizen

An Israeli citizen was a fatality during the attack, as per reports citing the Israeli government.

Those Injured

From the 42 people transported to hospitals, many remain under care, with several in a critical state. Those hurt comprise two officers who responded to the attack.

A casualty is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the gunmen. Described as a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is in stable condition in hospital.

Arsen Ostrovsky

Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. Sources state he was hurt and underwent treatment in hospital.

Communicating, he described the incident as an “absolute bloodbath,” but also praised the response of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “stroke of luck” he was alive.

Evan Zlatkis

Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the attack. He described he listened to “dozens and dozens” of gunshots.

“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he explained. “I was hit. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
