The Game UN:Me: An Cerebral Horror Merging Survival Horror with Among Us Gameplay
The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled several fascinating upcoming titles, but one especially has captured attention: UN:Me. Created by Historia and Shueisha Games, this single-player experience seems to blend the dread-filled setting of a Silent Hill game with the suspicion-driven heart of Among Us.
"This is a distinctive experience where a young woman harboring multiple personalities within her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states developer Yasukazu Kawai.
Entering a Fractured Consciousness
In UN:Me, players assume the role of an unnamed heroine seeming to be of teenage years. Within her exist four separate personas, all possessing unique anxieties and motivations. These souls can seize control at will, releasing their deep-seated terrors upon her suddenly.
Judging by showcased gameplay, much of the action takes place within a creepy medical facility, while other scenes show the protagonist exploring a desolate church.
A World of Individual Horror
"What makes you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" asks game director Shun Sasaki. "Heights. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to others can trigger something primal inside us. This game delves into that idea — anxieties that are specific to every individual."
The central gameplay loop involves managing whichever soul surfaces at any given moment. However, these identities will change involuntarily as you play. While exploring, each soul's anxieties become amplified and assault the protagonist in succession. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.
Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Decision
At first glance, UN:Me displays striking aesthetic parallels with the Silent Hill franchise. The hospital is populated by orderlies who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad grins. Figures in the lobby have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are an ever-present theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.
Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four souls haunting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the physical form belongs to them," explains a developer. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."
After a player have deduced a persona is an impostor, they must eliminate it. But, because every entity can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to choose incorrectly.
"Perhaps you've already destroyed the real [soul] with your own hands," a voice suggests. "The last one remaining could be a fraud. In any case, your choices are irreversible."
UN:Me currently lacks a publicly announced release date, but it is can be follow on digital storefronts.
