Citizens have gathered throughout the country to mark 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks proceeded in Egypt over a resolution to the conflict in Gaza.

The assault led to in excess of 1,200 people killed and 251 others captured back to Gaza as prisoners. It was the uniquely deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel answered by beginning a defensive operation in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, based on figures from the area's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its figures are considered accurate by the United Nations and other international bodies.

"The violent adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not defeated us," Benjamin Netanyahu added on that day.

He also promised to "achieve all the aims of the war: the homecoming of all the abducted, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will no longer present a risk to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The government authorities delayed formal commemorations until October 16th - after the end of the festive season - but gatherings still were held around the country on that day.

A commemorative event for the families of Israelis who died in the Hamas attack was organized in the coastal city. Arranged by the affected families, it was broadcast throughout Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a moment of silence was held around the country.

Negotiation Discussions in Egypt

Simultaneously, both sides' delegations convened in the North African coastal city of the negotiation venue for a follow-up session of third-party negotiations to examine the terms of the plan.

A senior delegate knowledgeable about the talks indicated that an evening round of indirect talks started at 7 PM local time.

The representative explained the day's discussions concluded without significant progress, due to differences over the recommended Israeli pullout plans from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to guarantee Israel does not recommence fighting after the opening period of the agreement.

He noted that the talks are "difficult and have not yet deliver any significant progress," but pointed out that mediators are making efforts to close the differences between the conflicting groups.

Essential Points in Discussions

  • A lasting halt to fighting
  • The exchange of the captives still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of military personnel from Gaza
  • Arrangements for relief supplies provision
  • After-conflict administration of the territory

Civilian Sentiment

In the city's Hostages Square earlier, young Hagar - whose family member survived the incident on the outdoor event, where 378 people were killed and many more were captured by Hamas gunmen - explained: "No location appears as home now and until all the hostages are released none of us will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everyone home again, we can feel relief once more. Then we can commence recover," she continued.

In front of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people assembled to express their support for the loved ones of the captives. Israel says forty-eight remain in confinement in Gaza, 20 of whom are thought to be living.

Protester Atalia Regev remarked: "We must do every compromise needed for the hostages to come back home. But we truly desire assurances that we will be protected."

Opinion polls now consistently show that around the majority of Israeli citizens desire the conflict to end in as payment for the release of the hostages.

Gaza Situation

At the location of Nova festival, grieving people assembled to honor the dead.

From the site, the boom of Israeli air strikes and artillery could be heard just a short distance away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the heavy Israeli shelling persisted.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were documented in the dawn of that day in the western neighborhood, area and locality areas and in the east side area of that sector, as well Shati refugee camp to the northwest.

"As the dusk comes, the dread arrives with it," displaced Gaza City resident a mother, whose teenage son was killed by an Israeli aerial attack previously, explained.

"We are terrified of the bombings. All the night we are resting together, embracing, especially my youngest child who places his face on me the entire evening."

"Continuously we look at the news to see what happened. And I'm worried that this ceasefire will not be achieved and that the conflict will return to us."

Medical Crisis

The healthcare center in the urban area announced it had taken in the bodies of six people by the afternoon, including three who died in an Israeli strike in the south part area.

A different healthcare center in the southern city of that area reported two more fatalities had been transported. A person was lost his life by Israeli forces while looking for help to the southern area, medical staff reported.

The territory's health ministry announced a significant number of the {territ
