This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a presidential-style act this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the beginning of a second term in office.
“If we disregard eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the modern linguistic fad of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a countryside refuge “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: vibrant, varied, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Every time, we are delighted to mark heritage and mercy in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they marked the pig's pardon.
